accessible evidence for planning and housing

Who we are

The Local Housing Requirement Assessment Working Group is an informal grouping of the major professional and representative bodies with an interest in planning for housing in England.  The Group came together in 2011 with a shared belief that the new 'bottom up' approach to planning needed to be evidence based and that this provided a real challenge for many local authorities and others at a time of tight resources.

The Group's aim is ‘to develop guidance for practitioners to assist in developing robust and objective evidence regarding the full range of housing requirements in their local area'.  The principles that govern any guidance produced by the Group are that it should be 'transparent and accessible to a range of audiences and be affordable and proportionate’.

The organisations represented on the Group are:

Town and Country Planning Association

Shelter

The Local Government Association

Planning Officers Society

National Housing Federation

Home Builders Federation

British Property Federation

Royal Town Planning Institute

Chartered Institute of Housing

Building and Social Housing Foundation

Northern Housing Consortium

Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors
